Enduring Joy of The Joy Tree

Tomorrow (Thursday) is THE final day to pull your hammock up under The Joy Tree!

I understand this time of year is extremely challenging: Christmas is looming, kids are finishing school and we all want to tighten our belt in anticipation of that January credit card statement!

Earlier in the week, I made an offer to my newsletter subscribers and now I open it up to the public.

What if you could bring a friend to The Joy Tree class for HALF PRICE?

Why? Well, of course there’s a story……

I leave clover to grow in my lawn. A lot of my friends and neighbours do it. I enjoy the Spring-time ramble and hum of the bees that descend upon them. It reminds me that the cycle of life is still happening and our elderly neighbours who have a dozen hives will do well again selling their honey.

But they didn’t come this year; I was disturbed. Why can’t I enjoy this moment? It’s an event that is talked about in the shops and when it just didn’t happen….well, I couldn’t share it with anyone!!

And so it reminded me of sharing moments with friends. Why can’t every moment be in the company of a friend? Your experience is richer, you recall that moment with more clarity and you can relive that moment again and again and again….
It connects you into a single consciousness – like bees, and you feel CONNECTED! And so the idea of BRING A FRIEND came to mind.

So, if you think this is for you, today and tomorrow is your chance to find a friend and come join me at Knitch for another 3 hours of collagey goodness.

All you need to do is go the BLOG POST and purchase your class. As you move through the PayPal process, there’ll be a box entitled INSTRUCTIONS TO SELLER. It’s there you’ll write your friend’s name. Bring them on Saturday and all they’ll  need to pay is $45!!!

I’m thinking this is too easy! My husband thinks it’s a fabulous idea.

What do you think? I hope to hear the hum of busy bees at The Joy Tree class this Saturday.

xx Giovanna

Collage Play Workshop

It’s been a while in the making, so I’m very pleased to launch my new workshop experience….
collage play promo

Collage Play is a mixed media workshop for absolute beginners.

On the surface? It’s about creating a pretty piece of art for your wall.

But really? It’s about expressing yourself, playing with lots of different media and learning some cool techniques.

It’s designed for people who have limited or no knowledge of mixed media, art, being creative and drawing a face – people who struggle with confidence in drawing, who say, “I’m not arty! Stick figures are my limit.”
By the end of the workshop, you will understand how to make interesting backgrounds, combine colours and textures, DRAW A SIMPLE FACE and use art mediums with confidence.

And best of all, you’ll have the benefit of a small, intimate group of like-minded souls. You’ll arrive with basic tools and leave with a generous kit and enough knowledge to complete more at home. Because the group is small, I can give you lots of guidance and attention and encouragement along the way.

So grab your apron and paintbrushes and get ready to Collage Play!

The workshop opens for registration today and numbers are limited.
Investment: $90

There are 2 sessions to choose from: Wednesday 22nd October or Saturday 25th October.
Workshop time: 10am – 1pm (plus cleaning up time).

Our venue is the lovely yarn shop Knitch, in Paddington.

We have a gorgeous space downstairs to spread out and be messy-creatives without interruption.

I hope you can join me. It’s going to be loads of fun!
But why believe me? (I’m a wee bit biased)
Here’s what past workshop attendees had to say….

Fantastic class. Very relaxed atmosphere, excellent and very patient teacher. Even my daughter was proud of my art work and that takes a lot!!!
I look at it now and proudly think “I did that.” I left the class with the confidence that I could do this myself at home. 10/10.

Thank you so much – really enjoyed the afternoon. Can’t wait to get all the stuff to create another one (or two) :-).

For only $90 you get a generous kit of mixed media goodies, detailed notes to take home, 3+ hours of me tenderly and expertly guiding you through the process and use of lots of extras from my stash.

But it’s not just the WHAT, but the HOW AND WHY I use what I use and the know-how that comes from years of making some huuuuge mistakes along the way.

Many have said that mixed media confuses them and it’s not for them. Let me show you how achievable it REALLY IS; de-mystify a few art mediums and teach you how to use what you already have at home.

I would love to see you sitting at my table and looking totally satisfied with what you’ve created.
Remember –
Time to take a chance and show us your Amazingness!

Hope to hear from you soon!!
xx Gi

Full payment is required and will run on a first-come-first-served basis.
A refund will only be given if your spot can be filled.
You will need to bring some basic items from home – a full list of supplies will be provided on registration and payment.

Fortune Favours the Brave

Happy Winter Folks!
And while the weather is cooling down outside, inside at Studio GiSt, things are hotting up and gaining momentum.

Last Friday night I attended the opening of Art & Design Precinct’s Fortune 500 group exhibition, because…..they selected 4 (yes, FOUR) of my artworks for their walls. See all the pretty pictures here:
Open until the 3rd July and they open 6 days (ex. Monday). It was a great night with hubby, 2 of my sisters and friends Janine and Peter coming along for moral support.
Seriously nervous and anxious about the whole process. What if it wasn’t good enough? What if I didn’t get them finished on time? What if What if What if….
However, with owners Michelle and Grant so supportive of newbies like me to the exhibition scene, and putting me on equal footing with more accomplished Artists in the area, it was all so so so good.

I was BRAVE and conquered all the self-doubt and “not-good-enoughs” and the imagined criticisms from invisible nobodies…and JUST DID IT.

I felt as though I had truly “arrived”.

Many fabulous works on display for sale – all 500×500 or less and all under $500. I have some favourites that were full of texture and intrigue, but there is something for all tastes.
But here are mine currently gracing their walls!!

Do Yourself a Favour…and get there!!

But that’s not all!!!

Not long after the Opening Night, I sealed the deal to teach art/mixedmedia workshops at The Scrap N Patch at Toowoomba.
Yeah!! Not taught for over a year (not including teenagers) but it was always in the plan to do a workshop this year, and I am so fortunate that Liz asked me to come to her store to run them.
Still in the testing/playing phase, which I always think is the BEST FUN EVER! I might just leave it at the FUN STAGE and leave you all wanting M.O.R.E…..

The first of these sensationally experimental and outrageously fun classes will be on Saturday 13th July at 9am and 2pm. More details to come, but in the meantime, here are some shots of the fun I’M having!!

Mark you calendar and tell your friends!! Places will be strictly limited to ensure maximum mooching time (this includes copious cups of char, chatting and drying time).
I hope that’s left you sufficiently inspired and excited for 2013.
Heaps more to come including 2 local markets at 2 great primary schools, so stay tuned for some interesting ways to purchase some unique GiSt goodness.

As always, available for commission work – something truly yours for a relative or friend or YOU!!
Contact me at gistcreative.aus [at] gmail [dot] com to get the ball rolling.

Remember to get messy this weekend, hug your loved ones and let me know you dropped by.
