Our 2 favourite parks.
A morning jaunt with the whole family:
An afternoon expending energy, just me and Rainer:
(taken on iPhone)
And I guess to most people, these pictures look completely normal and very uninteresting. Big-whoop, parents taking their 11 and 9 year olds to the park….blog-worthy?
In my world……YES!
If you’ve been following my story for a while, you’ll know that Rainer is severely Autistic (non-verbal, aggressive, loads of sensory issues, etc) and also a Runner! For him to go to a park and not attack other children or simply decide, for whatever reason, to run away – is a step forward in his development (and my nervous/mental health).
Before I decided to take him to the BMX track, he was spiralling into and out of a colossal melt-down at home. It was a big risk to take a volatile child to the track on my own, but the repetition of circling the track combined with the obvious expenditure of energy, calmed him and he was delightful for the rest of the day…..phew.
And we live in the most wonderous part of Brisbane (had to sneak that in).
I am so glad it was a positive outing for both of you. PHEW !!!
Not wrong there Pam *phew* indeed!! He’s getting better each day but I still worry about his future. Need to mobilise people to support the NDIS!
Well done Rainer! What an awesome achievement.
Thanks suzjones! It was, and now he’s hooked on the BMX track. Every time we get into the car, even to go shopping, he grabs the scooter *sigh* 😉
