Sex plus Meat & Potatoes

Okay, before you all dive for the Communication Ombudsman’s phone number just read this….

My Hubby is one clever man. Actually he is sometimes too clever and some would perceive it as arrogance (we’re an interesting pair). He can put his hand to anything (or his mind) and it turns to gold. He reads everything and anything; autobiographies, Alpha, BOSS, Stephen King and more.

What he does read a lot of is business allegory books. Our faves are “Who Moved my Cheese” and “The Fish Rots from the Head” (essential acquisitions for anyone, not just in business). So when I began this creative biz of mine, he was full of advice….lot and lots of advice.

The thing has stood out of all of this lovely, heartfelt, husbandly advice???ย … is to work at the little things.

He would say that people would fail in their own businesses because they spent too much time on the “sexy” stuff, the work that was a heap of fun, paid big money but was very hard to win. What they ignored was the “meat and potatoes” work, the work that was perhaps not as sexy, perhaps a little mundane but was regular, solid and kept you going.

And you thought this was about our recent date night? Shame on you!!

So while I’m on this journey, on my GiSt path to Creativity, I will remember to do all facets of what will keep me here in 10, 20, 30 years. If you read my post on Whose Art is it Anyway?, you’ll see that this creative urge has been brewing for some time now. So if I make a mistake or miss an opportunity, I’m won’t run to the corner and assume the foetal position, because I know that I’m in for the long haul and a similar one will present itself – as they always do, if you open yourself to them and simply continue to work hard and well.

I am learning to promote myself more as well.

SALE ON NOW!!!

I come from a line of “quiet achievers” and coupled with my Teaching background where singing your own praises is not good for Department harmony and you don’t have “Competition” only Collaborators, well, let’s just say it’s been a difficult re-birthing!!

So the lesson ends. Let’s call it a “Quickie”.

The awkwardness of sexy meat and potatoes will no doubt haunt you at dinnertime, and so my work here is done.

I am off to do some good old fashioned Meat & Potatoes type stuff. I’ll think about Sex tomorrow!!

  3. Hi Giovanna,
I’m your fairly new follower on FB & this blog. I’m a mixed-media lover as well (mostly as a hobby).
Thanks for this very entertaining post – it brightened up my day ๐Ÿ˜‰ A very wise message too in any business activity. I can totally relate. It’s so natural to gravitate towards the fun, the easy & the sexy…Quite a challenge to consciously remember to keep strengthening that foundation.
    Cheers,
